Stop at Nothing - The Lance Armstrong Story

Stop at Nothing - The Lance Armstrong Story is a newly released documentary. This documentary is more in-depth than the previous Lance Armstrong documentaries I´ve seen, and it´s a great watch. One aspect I really like, is that the makers used archived material to a great degree, such as worn out VHS footage, which makes for an authentic feeling.

Watching the film one question often arises: how could Lance be so calm when getting questioned during interviews and press conferences regarding the issue of doping? He seemed to always make a credible impression.

Sadly, I can´t find a trailer for the movie, but the synopsis from the official press kit gives an good overview about what to expect:

This is an intimate but explosive story about the man behind the greatest fraud in sporting history. Lance Armstrong enriched himself by cheating his fans, his sport and the truth. But the former friends whose lives and careers he destroyed would prove to be his nemesis.

At the film’s heart is a portrait of a man who will stop at nothing in pursuit of money, fame and success. It reveals just how Armstrong duped the world with his story of a miraculous recovery from cancer to become a sporting
icon and a beacon of hope for cancer sufferers everywhere; how Lance’s cheating, bullying and lying become more and more extreme as he attempted to crush his opponents on and off the bike; and how a few brave souls refused to bow to his indomitable will, resolutely fighting back, putting their own fate in the balance as they became outcasts, derided and humiliated until eventually their voices were heard.

A sad thing to see, the message Hope Rides Again turns to the satirical message Dope:

The film reveals how Lance Armstrong’s cheating was the centre of a grand conspiracy – a giant heist in which Lance, his backers and sponsors sought to steal one of the greatest sporting events in history and enrich themselves to the tune of hundreds of millions of pounds at the expense of fans, the sport and the truth. It also shows what happens when a small close-knit group of friends shares a secret and how that secret corrodes their bonds of friendship until they turn on each other in a desperate fight for the truth, destroying marriages, careers and lives.

In STOP AT NOTHING, Lance’s friends and enemies speak candidly for the first time about the man at the centre of the greatest fraud in sporting history.

Featured image shows Lance winning the Tour de France stage in Sestriere, 1999. This is discussed in the documentary since he did win this demanding stage in such a superior way.
